Slow Groups After Updating

Why a group can take a moment longer to open the first time after a Keet update — and why that's expected, not stuck.

Why does a group take longer to open right after I update?

Every so often, Keet upgrades how it stores a group's data behind the scenes, to make things faster and more reliable going forward. The first time you open a group you'd already used — on a Keet version that includes this upgrade — Keet needs a moment to convert that group's local data before it can show it to you.

If you see a banner saying "Keet is upgrading for a smoother experience" and asking for a little patience as you open your groups, this is what it's about. 🔄

  • It runs once per group, per device — open that same group again and it's back to normal speed.
  • It only affects groups you'd already used on that device. A group you're opening for the first time, or on a new device, just syncs normally — nothing to convert.
  • There's currently no progress bar for it, so the group can look like it's stuck loading for a few seconds while this happens. That's expected.

Is my data safe?

Yes. The group keeps the same ID, so existing invites keep working, and none of your message history is deleted or rewritten — your messages stay exactly as they were.

What if a group still won't load?

  • Check your network connectivity.
  • Restart the app and try opening the group again.
  • Make sure you're on the latest version of Keet. If a group has moved further ahead than your version supports, Keet will show: "Some groups might not work with your current version of Keet. Please update the app to access all your groups." Updating fixes it.

Still stuck after that? Please submit a bug report to the 'Bug Bandits' group and our team will look into it.
